Technical Hitch Delays Cabaret Previews???

Date: 22 September 2006

The first preview performance tonight (22 September 2006) of Rufus Norris’ revival of Cabaret, which opens on 10 October 2006 at the West End’s Lyric Theatre (See News, 13 Jun 2006), has been cancelled. According to a spokesperson for the musical - which stars Anna Maxwell Martin, James Dreyfus, Sheila Hancock and Michael Hayden - the team is “behind technically. Unfortunately, it is just one of those things. Our priority is for the people who have booked for tonight’s performance, and they will all be accommodated by being rescheduled or refunded.” She added: “Tomorrow’s matinee will be the first performance. We will be there with bells on.” Cabaret turns Weimar Berlin into a dark and sexually charged haven of decadence, its morally ambiguous inhabitants determined to keep up appearances as the real world - outside the sanctuary of the cabaret - prepares for the chaos of war. Based on the stories of Christopher Isherwood and the play by John Van Druten, it has a book by Joe Masteroff, music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb. This production is designed by Katrina Lindsay, choreographed by Javier De Frutos and produced by Bill Kenwright Ltd. It’s initially booking at the Lyric until 7 April 2007.
