Lloyd Webber Makes Master & Margarita Musical???Date: 25 August 2006For his last new musical, composer Andrew Lloyd Webber found inspiration in Wilkie Collins’ Victorian novel The Woman in White. For his next, he’s looking east to the former Soviet Union. According to Daily Mail columnist Baz Bamigboye, Lloyd Webber is working on a new stage musical of Mikhail Bulgakov’s satirical novel The Master and Margarita. Bulgakov, whose original plays include The White Guard and Flight, was forced to write the book – about a magician who mystifies the Moscow locals with his show - in secret over the last 15 years of his life. Because of the perceived threat of the content, it wasn’t published until 1967, nearly 30 years after it was written. Edward Kemp adapted the novel as a stage play, which premiered at the Chichester Festival two years ago (See News, 23 Jan 2004). Related Content |
