Conti Succeeds Livingstone as London Mayor???Date: 14 August 2006Is Tom Conti about to swap the stage for City Hall? Possibly so, if his comments about succeeding Ken Livingstone as mayor ever come to fruition. Speaking to the Evening Standard, Conti declared that he’s beginning a “period of investigation” about someday running for office. Currently starring in Jeffrey Bernard Is Unwell at the West End’s Garrick Theatre, 64-year-old Conti is unhappy with various aspects of London living of late, including: the dollar/pound exchange rate, car clamping, congestion charges, bendy buses and even school class sizes. However, he admits he doesn’t yet know his own politics, at least in terms of party affiliation: “I’m not a Conservative and I’m not Labour either”. Mayor or not, Conti will continue to play Soho’s most infamous alcoholic at the Garrick Theatre until 2 September 2006. Just don’t mention the traffic. Related Content |
