Plays with Potential: Cowboy, Look Back, 39 Steps???Date: 11 July 2006 There's been so much talk of musicals lately, it's nice to speculate on some plays for a change. This week, there are a clutch of plays that haven't even opened yet that are, if the wind's blowing the right way, tipped for the West End (See News, 10 Jul 2006). All boast top casts and definite transfer potential: Tim Fountain's screen-to-stage adaptation of Midnight Cowboy, starring Telstar’s Con O'Neill in the Dustin Hoffman role of Ratso Rizzo; Patrick Barlow's comic reworking of Hitchcock thriller The 39 Steps, starring Catherine McCormack; and Peter Gill's 50th anniversary revival of John Osborne's Look Back in Anger, starring Richard Coyle and Rachael Stirling. All open next month in, respectively, Edinburgh, Kilburn (that’s in north London for those outside the M25) and Bath. Watch this space.
