Hasselhoff on Guard for Baywatch Musical???Date: 29 June 2006David Hasselhoff may have cancelled his pantomime debut at the New Wimbledon Theatre this Christmas, but he was out in force in the West End last night for the opening of Avenue Q. Hasselhoff is a big fan of the show and its creators Jeff Marx and Robert Lopez – so much so that, he told Whatsonstage.com (See Today’s WOS TV footage), “I’d love these guys to write Baywatch The Musical”. Could he be serious? Such a show would certainly have a readymade audience. When the American TV network NBC cancelled the beach-set drama series, Hasselhoff and his partners acquired the rights to continue it internationally. The programme has since been viewed in 140 countries by more than one billion people. Hasselhoff played veteran lifeguard Mitch Buchannon from 1989 to 2000, a stint which, along with his other popular 1980s series Knight Rider, led to him to being listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as "the Most Watched TV Star in the World". If Baywatch The Musical did become a reality, perhaps Hasselhoff would star again in the stage version. Hasselhoff made his Broadway debut in 2000, playing the title role(s) in Jekyll and Hyde, which he followed up in 2004 by making his West End debut playing sleazy lawyer Billy Flynn in Kander and Ebb musical Chicago. The real question for pneumatic blondes everywhere must surely be, who would play CJ Parker, aka Pamela Anderson? Related Content |
