Jersey Boys Tipped for 2007 Transfer???
Date: 28 June 2006
If all goes well with Avenue Q, which receives its West End premiere tonight (28 June 2006) at the newly renamed Noël Coward Theatre (See News, 17 Feb 2006), impresario Cameron Mackintosh may bring over another Tony Award-winning Broadway musical in 2007. Word is, he’s in talks to transfer Jersey Boys - which won this year’s Tony for Best Musical (See News, 12 Jun 2006), two years after word-of-mouth success Avenue Q beat blockbuster Wicked to the same prize – into one of his seven West End theatres. Jersey Boys tells the story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, the blue collar kids from New Jersey who formed a singing group and became famous. The musical – directed by Des McAnuff with a book by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice – features many of the group’s pop hits from the Sixties such as "Big Girls Don't Cry," "Oh What a Night" and "Can't Take My Eyes Off of You".
