Birthday Queen Hangs on at Dominion???
Date: 28 April 2006
Queen fans may soon have more reason to celebrate. Next week (Thursday 11 May 2006),
We Will Rock You marks its fourth birthday at the Dominion Theatre, where a special performance is expected to be attended by band members Brian May and Roger Taylor. What’s more, it’s looking increasingly likely that the
Ben Elton musical won’t be closing on 7 October after all (See
News), 24 Jan 2006). The transfer of big-budget spectacular
The Lord of the Rings is less certain after underwhelming reviews following its world premiere in Toronto in March (See
The Goss, 24 Mar 2006). While the British producers and creative team behind the stage adaptation of JRR Tolkien’s trilogy are still hoping to bring it “home” to London, where they had originally hoped to mount it first, the move may no longer happen in the February/March 2007 timeframe and, if Queen hangs on, it may not be at the Dominion. Other theatres, including the Theatre Royal Drury Lane and the New London, have been mooted as alternative possibilities.
