Seven Brides Loses Right to Transfer???Date: 27 April 2006Plans to take the current touring production of Seven Brides for Seven Brothers into the West End may be in jeopardy on account of the American rights holders of the 1954 Oscar-winning MGM musical comedy, who have not yet granted the production company, UK Productions Ltf, the official go-ahead. The show, starring Dave Willetts and Shona Lindsay, was due to follow Peter Hall’s revival of Noel Coward’s Hay Fever, starring Judi Dench, into the Theatre Royal, Haymarket, from 10 August 2006 (See News, 13 Apr 2006). A spokesperson for the company told Whatsonstage.com they will know for certain whether or not the transfer will be going ahead tomorrow (Friday 28 April 2006), because they will lose their place at the Haymarket if they can not confirm by then. Set in Oregon circa 1850, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers is the story of Adam, the eldest of seven brothers, who goes to town to get a wife. Having convinced Milly to marry him, he brings her back to his backwoods cabin, where she discovers he has six live-in brothers. Milly sets out to reform the uncouth siblings, who are anxious to get wives of their own. After reading about the Roman capture of the Sabine women, Adam suggests his brothers kidnap the women they want. Related Content |
