Film Star Keira Is New Fair Lady???Date: 11 April 2006 According to Daily Telegraph, Keira Knightley has been approached by Cameron Mackintosh to play cockney flower girl-tuned-lady Eliza Doolittle. It has not been revealed whether the theatre impresario has Knightley in mind for a new film version of My Fair Lady or whether he has Broadway in his sights. Either way, says the newspaper, it has been confirmed that Trevor Nunn - who directed the multi Olivier Award-winning National Theatre revival of the Lerner and Loewe musical, which Mackintosh transferred to the West End and is currently touring around the UK with Amy Nuttall in the lead - will once again helm the production. Knightley is said to be happy to do either, despite having little stage experience. Following her success in Brit flick Bend it Like Beckham, the 21-year-old has conquered Hollywood with roles in films including Pirates of the Caribbean and Pride and Prejudice. Nunn’s London production of My Fair Lady featured a succession of Elizas including Martine McCutcheon and Joanna Riding, who both won Oliviers for the role in back-to-back years, as well as Laura Michelle Kelly and Alexandra Jay.
