Will the Old Vic Go Dark in April???Date: 29 March 2006Robert Altman’s star-studded though much-maligned UK premiere production of Arthur Miller’s Resurrection Blues finishes in just over three weeks (22 April 2006) and next up at the Old Vic is … who knows? Last autumn, when artistic director Kevin Spacey announced his second year’s programme (See News, 8 Sep 2005), there was a hole in the schedule. He said at the time that there were “several balls in the air” but that an announcement would be made before the end of the year. As of this month, sources at the Old Vic said they were still trying to decide between two plays. But still the hole remains, and it’s looking increasingly likely that the Old Vic may actually go dark for a matter of weeks if not months. The next scheduled production is Howard Davies’ revival of Eugene O’Neill’s A Moon for the Misbegotten, starring Spacey, who won a clutch of awards in Davies’ 1998 staging of O’Neill’s The Iceman Cometh. But even for that much-anticipated production, final dates have not been confirmed and booking has not yet opened. Related Content |
