Queen Gives Royal Approval to Billy Elliot???Date: 29 March 2006 HRH The Queen had a night off from her royal duties last night – and she chose to spend it attending a performance of Billy Elliot. She and Prince Philip arrives just seconds before the curtain rose at the Victoria Palace and took their seats, without fanfare, in the front row of the dress circle. We wonder what she made of the tale about the ballet-mad boy, set in the North-east during the devastating miners’ strikes of the Eighties. Last night’s performance starred 13-year-old Liam Mower, one of the Olivier Award-winning boys who originated the title role in the musical. Billy Elliot, based on the 2000 Brit flick of the same name, celebrates its first anniversary in the West End on 12 May 2006 with a special performance in which Mower will share his Billy duties with the other two role originators, 16-year-old James Lomas and 15-year-old George Maguire, who have both since left the show.
