Wrongly Arrested Theatregoers Sue Scotland Yard???Date: 24 March 2006Three theatregoers who were arrested for failing to submit to a police search after one of them was falsely accused of selling drugs outside the West End’s Apollo Theatre last summer are considering suing Scotland Yard. Their case was dropped this week following an eight-month legal battle. After watching The Big Life, which became the West End’s first-ever black British musical after it transferred from the Theatre Royal Stratford East in May 2005, O’Neill Crooks and his son Divanio (who are black) and family friend Yasmin Adbi were arrested outside the theatre while talking to an orchestra member Crooks had recognised, according to the Evening Standard. Their arrest sparked so much anger that cast members and producer Bill Kenwright voiced their support, with the impresario even funding the family’s defence. The case has now been dropped, and Crooks is reportedly considering civil action. Related Content |
