Pike Back on Stage in Summer & Smoke???Date: 10 March 2006Former Bond girl Rosamund Pike, who was last seen in the West End in Terry Johnson’s Hitchcock Blonde in 2003, is tipped to star in a new production of Tennessee Williams’ rarely performed Summer and Smoke this autumn. According to today’s Daily Mail, the actress will play Miss Alma in the revival directed by Adrian Noble, which is likely to open at the Nottingham Playhouse in September ahead of a West End transfer. Summer and Smoke was originally mounted in 1947, but Williams was so unhappy with the premiere that he penned a major rewrite, titled Eccentricities of a Nightingale, which was staged in 1964. The play, about unrequited love in 1916 Mississippi, has never been performed in the West End before. It was previously tipped to be directed by Peter Hall back in 2003 (See The Goss, 3 Dec 2002).
