Barrowman Joins Barbra at Delfont Room???

Date: 7 February 2006

Steven Brinberg, whose hit US comedy cabaret Simply Barbra was last in the UK at the West End's Arts Theatre in October 2002, is returning to London to the Prince of Wales Theatre’s Delfont Room for two nights only to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Funny Girl, which opened at the Prince of Wales on 13 April 1966 starring Barbra Streisand. Simply Barbra - conceived, written by and starring Brinberg - will launch the new season of late-night cabarets at the venue, which started last year with a sell-out show by Joanna Riding and Martin Crewes (See News, 23 Dec 2004). The one-man show will run on 15 and 16 February 2005 at 11.00pm. In the guise of Barbra, Brinberg, performs songs, relates snippets of gossip about her marriages and wisecracks about her movies delivered with the legendary Streisand panache. He’ll be joined by musical director Nathan Martin and a special guest each night – tipped to be Paul Robinson and John Barrowman. He also performs his portrayals of the vocal talents of stars such as Julie Andrews, Bette Davis, Ethel Merman, Eartha Kitt and Neil Diamond. In 1968, Funny Girl - by Isobel Lennart and Bob Merrill, with music by Jule Styne - was famously made into a Hollywood movie, directed by William Wyler and starring Streisand and Omar Sharif. The story follows the life of US comedienne Fannie Brice from her childhood in the Jewish slums of New York to her career success with the Ziegfeld Follies.
