Big Brother’s Chantelle Ripe for Evita???Date: 1 February 2006Just catching up on more bits and bobs from yesterday’s entertaining Critics’ Circle Awards at the Prince of Wales Theatre (See News, 31 Jan 2006). Guest speaker Arthur Smith noted the event’s clash with the Oscar nominations announcement as well as, closer to home, the press launch for the West End revival of Evita (See News, 31 Jan 2005). The latter bodes well, according to the comedian. “The theatre is in great shape,” he said. “They announced the new Evita and it’s Chantelle from Big Brother. So all is not lost.” Perhaps the musical’s director Michael Grandage – who was in attendance, having raced from the Evita launch to the Critics’ Circle in order to collect a Best Director award for The Wild Duck - will make note of the casting suggestion once the real new Evita, Argentine Elena Roger, finishes her contract.
