Sound of Music May Sound Different at Palladium???
Date: 24 January 2006
Over at another of the West End biggest musical houses, the London Palladium, plans are progressing for the long-touted revival of
The Sound of Music which is now likely to open in late 2006/early 2007 (See
News, 25 Sep 2002).
Jeremy Sams - whose directing credits include
Spend Spend Spend and, more recently
Little Britain Live - has been signed up to helm the production. The multi-talented Sams is also a composer, lyricist and book writer (of
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang) and has reportedly been given the remit of freshening up the book of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s 1959 Broadway classic. Amongst the other names so far mentioned in connection with the production are
Rob Jones (who will design it) and
Lesley Garrett (who has apparently expressed interest in playing the Mother Abbess). As for the role of nun-turned-nanny Maria,
Andrew Lloyd Webber, who is acting as the show’s producer, is in negotiations with the BBC for a reality TV competition to help cast the role immortalised on screen by Julie Andrews (See
The Goss, 2 Dec 2005).
