Friedman Bounces Back After Broadway Leave???Date: 23 January 2006While The Woman in White has posted closing notices in London, the Broadway show is going strong, but without its star (See News, 20 Jan 2006). Triple Olivier Award winner Maria Friedman - who was diagnosed with stage one breast cancer just before the show opened in New York - will take a six-week medical leave of absence to complete her cancer treatment from 12 February 2006 (See News ,17 Nov 2005). Three-time Tony Award nominee Judy Kuhn will play the leading role of Marian from 14 February to 26 March 2006. Kuhn’s acclaimed Broadway credits include Les Miserables, Rags and Chess. She has performed on concert stages around the world including appearances at Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, Avery Fisher Hall, and The Royal Albert Hall. Producer Bob Boyett said, "While Maria was eager to remain in the show and perform as much as her health allowed, we prevailed upon her to take this time to complete her treatment and return at the end of March. We are thrilled that Judy Kuhn, an extraordinary Broadway actress, was available to play this role." Related Content |
