Sunday Heads West with Sondheim Approval???Date: 4 January 2006The Menier Chocolate Factory has added an three weeks to meet audience demand for its production of Stephen Sondheim musical Sunday in the Park with George (See Today’s News). But even if you miss out on the current rush for extra tickets, you may yet have a chance to catch Sam Buntrock’s acclaimed revival. Menier artistic director David Babani told Whatsonstage.com today that he’s in advanced discussions to move the production to the West End. The current cast, including stars Daniel Evans and Anna-Jane Casey, are on board to reprise their performances for the transfer, which would take place in late April or early May 2006. A cast recording is also in the works. Last week, both Sondheim and book writer James Lapine caught the show in London, staying on to meet with the cast and creative team. According to Babani, both were “very encouraging, very supportive” of the production, which features ground-breaking design (with computer-generated animations) and an abridged second act.
