Miller’s Time Plays Again on Tour???Date: 19 December 2005 If you missed the recent UK premiere of Arthur Miller’s Playing for Time, stay tuned for a second chance (See News, 1 Sep 2005). Producers are in talks to launch a regional tour and possible West End transfer during 2006. The production initially ran from 10 to 26 November 2005 at Salisbury Playhouse, before transferring to Guildford’s Yvonne Arnaud Theatre from 29 November to 3 December. Miller’s script is based on the novel by Holocaust survivor Fania Fenelon, who was recruited to the women’s orchestra in Auschwitz. In the original 1980 film version, Vanessa Redgrave played Fenelon, the part taken in the UK stage version by two-time Olivier Award winner Joanna Riding. Director Joanna Read told Whatsonstage.com: “We have been delighted with the wonderful reviews that Playing for Time received. We would love to take it out on tour, and at the moment, we are pursuing different avenues in order to secure funding to allow us to do this. If successful, the plan would be to take the show on a larger scale tour next year with the intention of bringing it into town. At this stage, all hinges on securing a co-producer." And Playing for Time might not be the only major production from Salisbury to hit the road. The Playhouse’s upcoming production of A Touch of the Sun, which opens in the main house on 28 April 2006, is also tipped for a regional tour. Related Content |
