Blow for Broadway Friedman??? Best Wishes!Date: 2 November 2005Our very best wishes to Maria Friedman. The British diva is due to make her Broadway debut this month in The Woman in White - for which she won the Whatsonstage.com Award for Best Actress in a Musical during her original West End stint in the Andrew Lloyd Webber premiere – but on Monday, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Despite the terrible news, Friedman has continued to perform this week ahead of surgery scheduled for Thursday. Although she’ll need to have at least a week off afterwards, the actress is still hoping to return in time for the Broadway opening night on 17 November 2005. New York producer Bob Boyett told the New York Post: "Maria is our star, our friend and the beloved anchor of this company. We wish her and her family well over the next several weeks, and we look forward to welcoming her back for her opening night." What a trouper indeed. Related Content |
