Bad News for Beckham at New Musical???Date: 26 October 2005Have I Got News for You writers Mark Burton and Pete Sinclair were alarmed to discover footballer David Beckham's name on the VIP list to attend the celebrity-packed opening night (next Wednesday 2 November 2005) of their new comedy musical The Next Big Thing at the New Players Theatre. As well as the show's posters and flyers featuring a prominent endorsement from funnyman Jack Dee that the pop musical is “funnier than Posh Spice in a recording studio”, the show ends with a wicked Spice Girls number in which Posh sings about catching her husband texting on the phone. But the writers needn’t have worried - it turns out that David Beckham is the name of the show's sound operator, who works for supplier Orbital! “We just hope the real one doesn’t turn up, or he might pick up another red card for applauding sarcastically,” joked Sinclair.
