Hampstead Scores Hat Trick with Rubinstein???Date: 24 October 2005In fairly rapid succession this summer with Losing Louis and What the Butler Saw, north London’s Hampstead Theatre had its first and second West End transfers since it moved into its new £15.7 million state-of-the-art building at the start of 2003 and current artistic director Anthony Clark took over – and it’s hoping to score a hat trick by the start of next year. The Rubinstein Kiss, which has its world premiere at Hampstead next month (See News, 18 Jul 2005), boasts a crack cast headed by Samantha Bond, Will Keen and Spandau Ballet’s Gary Kemp and, crucially, a commercial producer, Kim Poster, who’s already keen to take it into town. The new play, written and directed by James Phillips, is inspired by the real-life story of Ethel and Julius Rosenberg, the American husband and wife executed for espionage during the McCarthy era. While in custody, the couple managed to get close enough for a passionate kiss which was famously captured on film. Related Content |
