McDiarmid & Fiennes Find Faith in Dublin???
Date: 30 September 2005
If you missed
Ian McDiarmid’s 2001 turn in Irish playwright Brian Friel’s
Faith Healer, which won him the Critics’ Circle Award for Best Actor, you may have another opportunity to catch it in the New Year. McDiarmid is hoping to reprise his performance as Teddy, manager of Frank Hardy, the faith healer of the title, when the Almeida Theatre production, directed by McDiarmid’s former Almeida joint artistic director
Jonathan Kent, is revived at the Gate Theatre in Dublin. According to today’s
Daily Mail,
Ralph Fiennes will play Frank in Dublin and in New York, but hopes that the production might then come back to London have been nixed because of Fiennes’ filming commitments. In Friel’s 1979 three-hander, dark secrets emerge in the relationship between Frank, Teddy and Frank’s wife Grace. When
Faith Healer ran at the Almeida’s temporary home in a King’s Cross bus shelter,
Ken Stott and
Geraldine James co-starred with McDiarmid.
