Hurry for Heroes Tickets!???
Date: 20 September 2005
Heroes is officially one of the season’s hottest tickets. The new play only went on general sale yesterday (Monday 19 September 2005), but thanks to the success of a two-week priority booking period offered through Whatsonstage.com and other select outlets, nearly half of the entire 14-week season has already been snapped up. Understandable really given that
Richard Griffiths,
John Hurt and
Ken Stott star in the three-hander, a hit French comedy that’s been translated by
Tom Stoppard! Set in 1959,
Heroes takes place in a veterans’ hospital where Gustave, Philippe and Henri are planning their escape. The UK premiere production is at the West End’s Wyndham’s Theatre from 19 October 2005 to 14 January 2006 (previews from 7 October). Of course, there’s a very good chance that, given demand, the production will extend, though it can’t do so for long with the original cast. Griffiths, for one, needs to pack up for the Broadway run of Alan Bennett’s
The History Boys next year (See
News, 27 Jul 2005), while the other actors are also in demand. Producer
David Pugh made a long-running success of another French three-hander, Yasmina Reza’s
Art, with a succession of no fewer than 27 high-profile casts. Perhaps
Heroes will go the same way. Still, if you want to see Griffiths, Hurt and Stott, you’d be wise to book now!
