Spacey Promises Musical Future for Old Vic???Date: 8 September 2005Still tapping his toes at this morning’s press conference after seeing Guys and Dolls, artistic director Kevin Spacey cried “absolutely!” when asked by Whatsonstage.com if he’d ever consider staging a musical at the Old Vic. Though it won’t be in the second season (See Today’s News), Spacey promised there would be a musical in one of his subsequent years’ programming. Whenever and whatever the project turns out to be, it may well involve Rob Ashford, who choreographed Guys and Dolls as well as, on screen, Beyond the Sea, Spacey’s 2004 biopic about “Mack the Knife” singer Bobby Darin. Spacey praised Ashford’s work as “not just fancy moves and jazz hands”. When the pair caught up after last night’s performance of the Frank Loesser musical at the Piccadilly Theatre, Spacey said one of the first questions in the conversation was “what musicals shall we do (at the Old Vic together)?” Related Content |
