Pay for Pavilions in Rupees Today???

Date: 15 August 2005

The Far Pavilions, the new stage musical version of MM Kaye’s popular historical novel, is celebrating 58 years of Indian and Pakistani independence today (Monday 15 August 2005) by offering 58 pairs of tickets for 58 rupees (or 75p) each. The box office will be accepting payment in pounds sterling or rupees. The show features a 50-strong company led by Hadley Fraser and Gayatri Iyer, directed by Gale Edwards and designed by Lez Brotherston. The musical has music by Philip Henderson, with book and lyrics by Martin Guerre’s Stephen Clark. Published in 1978, The Far Pavilions is set in 19th-century colonial India and follows the forbidden romance between British officer Ashton Pelham-Martyn and Indian princess Anjuli, whose marriage has already been arranged to a tyrannical ruler. Producer Michael Ward said: “We at The Far Pavilions wanted to mark India and Pakistan Independence Day by providing something a little different and exciting for our audience and we hope that the lucky 116 people will enjoy being part of this spectacular theatrical experience.” Tickets can be collected by visiting the Shaftesbury box office.
