Law & Miller Reunited in Lan’s As You Like It???Date: 5 August 2005Sienna Miller may soon have a very tough time avoiding her erstwhile fiancé Jude Law – he’s been approached to join her in the cast of As You Like It at the West End’s Wyndham’s Theatre. It’s been confirmed that, owing to other commitments, comedian Reece Shearsmith – who plays the melancholy Jacques – will have to leave the production for the final two weeks of the run, from 5 to 17 September 2005. Producers are now looking to recast for the fortnight and Law is a frontrunner. It was through Law that Miller made her connection with the production’s director David Lan, who is also artistic director of the Young Vic. The actor has previously appeared at the South Bank landmark, now closed for a two-year redevelopment, in 1999’s 'Tis Pity She's a Whore and 2002’s Doctor Faustus and is tipped to reopen the theatre next year with Hamlet, all directed by Lan (See The Goss, 16 Sep 2004). Law is also the chief patron of the fundraising campaign for the Young Vic’s rebuild, which has a £12.5 million price tag. Should he appear in Lan’s current West End production, any proceeds raised could bolster those fundraising efforts considerably. But is Miller also willing to pay the price? The actress made her professional stage debut playing Celia opposite Helen McCrory’s Rosalind in As You Like It. Last month, in the midst of the initial tabloid frenzy over Law’s admitted affair with his children’s nanny, Miller missed a performance of the show (See News, 20 Jul 2005). Whatever happens, she is contracted to remain in the show until the end of its season. If she does end up performing opposite Law, it could give new meaning to one of Shakespeare’s most famous speeches, delivered by Jacques - “All the world’s a stage…” indeed! UPDATED, 9 Aug 2005: Though the above was passed on to Whatsonstage.com by a reliable production source, we’ve since been contacted by Jude Law’s agent Tor Belfrage who has denied it. According to her, “Nobody’s approached us and he’s not going to take over that role. There’s not a glimmer of truth in it.” Related Content |
