Brits Off Broadway Score Big???
Date: 7 June 2005
Despite
Spamalot's success, Brits on Broadway didn't fare too well at this year's Tony Awards (See
News, 6 Jun 2005) - however,
Brits Off Broadway are certainly making noise in New York. The three-month “festival of new British theatre”, now in its second year, takes place across the three performances spaces at New York’s 59E59 Theaters until 3 July 2005. Already, the season has hosted New York premieres for previous Edinburgh Festival hits such as
When the Bulbul Stopped Singing, The Pull of Negative Gravity, The People Next Door and
Sisters, Such Devoted Sisters. This month brings London fringe successes such as
Tabloid Caligula (first seen at the Arcola),
Faster (Battersea Arts Centre) and
Celia Imrie’s one-woman show
Unsuspecting Susan (King’s Head). The season culminates with a four-week run of
Alan Ayckbourn’s latest comedy,
Private Fears in Public Places, which arrives via London’s Orange Tree Theatre and Ayckbourn’s own Stephen Joseph Theatre in Scarborough.
