Birmingham Buzz on Road to London???Date: 27 April 2005Is there something in the water in the Midlands? Over the past year, Birmingham Rep has become one of the biggest providers of product for the commercial West End. This week’s two West End openings, Elmina's Kitchen and The Birthday Party, both originated earlier this year in Birmingham, as did recent transfers of Of Mice and Men, Fuddy Meers, The Old Masters and The Witches. Today, the theatre announced another London-bound production, the premiere of actor Nigel Planer’s debut play, On the Ceiling (See Today’s News). Expected in the West End in June, it’ll be followed in the autumn by yet another - Peter Quilter’s Glorious, starring Maureen Lipman as “the worst singer in the world”, which is due to transfer after its September premiere in Birmingham (See News, 2 Mar 2005). How many more might there be by the end of the year? Related Content |
