Kwame Cooks Up West End Kitchen Transfer???Date: 14 March 2005Actor-turned playwright Kwami Kwei-Armah may accompany his own award-winning play, Elmina's Kitchen, to the West End next month. It’s tipped to transfer, possibly to the Garrick Theatre, at the end of April, following the conclusion of its current regional tour (See News, 16 Dec 2004). Premiered at the Cottesloe in May 2003, Elmina's Kitchen earned Kwei-Armah the Evening Standard Award for Most Promising Playwright. The play is set in Hackney, east London, where the Yardies are eating up the “Murder Mile” and Digger’s promise of protection sounds more like a threat. In the new production, again directed by Angus Jackson, Kwei-Armah plays the part of Deli (played by Paterson Joseph in the premiere), who is desperately trying to keep his restaurant in business and his son in line. The cast also features Dona Croll and Shaun Parkes. The tour continues until 2 April 2005. Related Content |
