McKellen Returns to Stratford with Two Plays???

Another star tipped to join the Royal Shakespeare Company�s constellation in the not-too-distant future is Sir Ian McKellen. The actor, who has found international screen fame in the likes of The Lord of the Rings and X Men, made his pantomime dame debut this past Christmas in Aladdin at the Old Vic. McKellen tells visitors to his official website that: �I am currently planning a couple of stage plays that will open in Stratford-upon-Avon and then travel abroad in 2007.� In 2003, McKellen was mooted to star in an RSC production of King Lear under the direction of former artistic director Adrian Noble (See The Goss, 11 Jul 2003). McKellen has already played Edgar and Kent in previous productions of the Shakespeare tragedy. Isn�t it time he took on the title role? Assuming King Lear might be one of the plays to which McKellen refers, what could be the other? Whatever it is, McKellen�s return to the RSC is definitely something to look forward to.
