Brooke Shields Bucks Up West End Chicago???
Date: 2 March 2005
There’s been heavy speculation that, after eight years at the West End’s Adelphi Theatre,
Chicago may be hanging up its fishnets at the end of this year in order to make way for another musical, perhaps the Broadway transfer of
Hairspray or the revival of
Andrew Lloyd Webber’s
Evita. However, a source close to
Chicago tells Whatsonstage.com that the show is still going strong and is currently enjoying its highest advance in years. So maybe not. In any case, though dates aren’t yet confirmed, American screen and stage actress Brooke Shields is still on to join the West End cast for a limited season as murderess Roxie Hart later this year. Shields has appeared on Broadway in
Wonderful Town, Grease and
Cabaret, though she’s best known for her screen roles, as a teenager in the 1970s and 80s, in the likes of
Pretty Baby, Endless Love and
The Blue Lagoon. More recently, a guest appearance on
Friends led to her own TV sitcom,
Suddenly Susan.
Chicago recently announced a six-month extension and is now booking up to December 2005 (See
News, 24 Feb 2005).
