Riding Aims for White Takeover in June???

Date: 2 March 2005

In other musical casting news, we hear that, while Joanna Riding is in fact signed up to take over from Maria Friedman in The Woman in White at the Palace Theatre (See The Goss, 18 Feb 2005), it may be a case of a little later rather than sooner. Friedman is contracted until the end of May, the same time that Riding will be finishing in the Noel Coward comedy Blithe Spirit at the Savoy. But, rather than jump straight in, Riding is likely to take a break and then come in fresh in late June or possibly early July when other principals in the cast of the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical are also due to change. Riding’s many previous musical credits include The Witches of Eastwick, Carousel, Guys and Dolls, Martin Guerre, Me & My Girl, A Little Night Music and My Fair Lady, for which she won the 2002 Olivier for Best Actress in a Musical after taking over from Martine McCutcheon.
