No More London Waiting for Hall’s Godot???Date: 28 February 2005Peter Hall’s previously tipped 50th anniversary revival of Waiting for Godot will happen this year but not, as planned, at the West End’s Arts Theatre (See The Goss, 19 Nov 2003). Hall wanted to bring Samuel Beckett’s modern classic back to the venue where, early on in his career when he was artistic director there, he famously presented the play’s English-language premiere in 1955. However, the Barbican Centre, which is planning a Beckett season in spring 2006, currently retains the London rights and has banned Hall from doing so. A diktat which, at last Thursday’s Whatsonstage.com Outing to Hall’s current West End production of The Dresser, the director described as “an act of supreme ungenerosity” (See News, 25 Feb 2005). The new production will still form part of Hall’s repertory season this summer at the Theatre Royal Bath. The season is also due to feature Much Ado About Nothing and George Bernard Shaw’s You Never Can Tell. Related Content |
