Lipman Murders Music in Glorious???

Maureen Lipman, most recently seen in
Aladdin at the Old Vic and
Thoroughly Modern Millie at the Shaftesbury, may be back in the West End by the end of the year. According to the
Daily Mail, she’s star in
Peter Quilter’s new play,
Glorious, inspired the life of the ‘socialite soprano’ of the 1920s and 1930s, Florence Foster Jenkins. Although she made her living staging concerts, Jenkins was an infamously bad singer whose albums included one entitled “Murder on the High Cs”. It won’t be the first time Lipman has trod the boards in tribute to late, real-life ladies. Her one-woman show
Re-Joyce! was about Joyce Grenfell and in Alan Plater’s 2000 play
Peggy for You, she played the literary agent Peggy Ramsay.
Glorious is tipped to open at Birmingham Rep in September before heading south to London.
