NY Blue Man Sets Sights on New London??? Date: 27 January 2005
With Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat now confirmed for a 2 April 2005 closure at the New London theatre (See Today’s News), fans of another Andrew Lloyd Webber musical, Cats that is, may have good reason to hope that the recent touring production ends up back in the theatre where it all began some 24 years ago (See The Goss, 13 Jan 2005). However, an American interloper may slip in to the New London for a short stint first. Blue Man Group is tipped to make its West End debuts at the venue. The silent, blue-skinned, bald-headed trio (in fact, now many trios) - who take audiences through a multi-sensory experience combining theatre, percussive music, art, science and vaudeville - have developed a sizeable cult following since their Off Broadway debut in 1991. In addition to the long-running New York production, there are now Blue Man shows in Las Vegas, Chicago and Boston. The group has also released two albums, Audio and The Complex, and created installations, "happenings", "unusual ads" and a number of TV-specific performances.
