Billy Elliot & Bourne Dance into Awards????Date: 26 January 2005Speaking of Matthew Bourne and awards, on the same day as his Laurence Olivier nominations snub, Bourne won a Critics’ Circle National Dance Award. The prize for Best Choreography (Musical Theatre) was presented to Bourne and his New Adventures for Play Without Words, which premiered in 2003 at the National Theatre where it returned last year and went on to win two 2004 Olivier Awards, for Best Entertainment and Best Theatre Choreographer. This year’s National Dance Awards also introduced a new category, the Working Title Billy Elliot Prize for 11- to 16-year old male dancers. And speaking of the Critics’ Circle, the drama section’s awards take place next Tuesday 1 February 2005, the same day as the results of Whatsonstage.com’s own fifth annual Theatregoers’ Choice Awards are announced. That should make for some interesting comparisons between critical and audience tastes (click here to vote now). Related Content |
