Russell Beale & Rhys Join Fiennes’ Julius???
Date: 17 January 2005
Deborah Warner’s upcoming production of
Julius Caesar just keeps getting juicier and juicier. Not only is there
Ralph Fiennes as Mark Antony and a cast of 100 (See
The Goss, 11 Jan 2005), we now hear that it will also feature no less than
Simon Russell Beale as Cassius and
Paul Rhys as Brutus. Epic indeed! If the new casting comes to pass, it would keep Shakespeare firmly on the brain for both actors. Russell Beale takes on the title role in the Almeida’s production of
Macbeth this week, while Rhys starred as Angelo in the Whatsonstage.com Award-nominated Complicite co-production of
Measure for Measure at the National last year (

Julius Caesar plays the Barbican Theatre from 20 April to 14 May 2004 (previews from 14 April prior to a European tour to Paris, Madrid and Luxembourg.
