Bridewell Farewell Gala Part I!??
Date: 7 December 2004
At the other end of the scale, though no less enjoyable, the first of the tenth anniversary/farewell concerts at London’s 100-seat Bridewell Theatre on Sunday night was a starry but sentimental affair (See
News, 24 Nov 2004). Artistic director
Carol Metcalfe’s recounting of how the theatre’s efforts to stay afloat without funding got many in the audience choked up, especially after a reminder of all of the stunning productions mounted there over the years. In a four-hour concert, previous cast members including
Edward Baker Duly,
Paul Baker,
Tracie Bennett,
Harry Burton,
Clare Burt,
Anna Francolini,
Jill Martin,
Mark McGee,
Sam Newman,
Frances Ruffelle,
Golda Rosheuvel ,
Caroline Sheen and
Sally Ann Triplett reprised selected performances from great productions such as
Saturday Night, Hello Again, Songs for a New World, Passion, Rags and others as well as showcases of new work from new composers the theatre has been supporting. The final farewell concert is next Sunday, 12 December, at which others joining the performer roll call will include
Janie Dee,
Ria Jones,
Shona Lindsay,
Matt Rawle,
Matthew White and
Craig Purnell. For more information, visit the
