Lyndhurst’s Dresser Transfers to West End???Date: 22 November 2004 Ronald Harwood’s modern stage classic The Dresser may make a return to the West End in the new year. In an interview today with Whatsonstage.com (See The Producers in Today’s Features), Theatre Royal Bath Productions’ Danny Moar confirmed that he hopes to bring their production of the play, starring Julian Glover and Only Fools and Horses’ Nicholas Lyndhurst into town at the conclusion of its current tour, which finished in mid-February 2005 (See News, 2 Sep 2004). Written in 1980, The Dresser was inspired by Harwood’s own early experiences as a dresser to Donald Wolfit. The stage play was famously made into a 1983 film starring Albert Finney as Sir, the aging actor-manager tryng to complete his 227th performance of King Lear as the bombs are falling during World War II, and Tom Courtenay, as his devoted dresser Norman. Another transfer possibility for Theatre Royal Bath Productions is the current touring revival of Alan Bennett’s 1999 play The Lady in the Van, starring Susan Hampshire.
