Sound of Music Awaits Right Home???Date: 8 November 2004Clear Channel’s David Ian also reveals in this week’s interview with Whatsonstage.com (See Today’s Features) that preparations are still underway for big revival of The Sound of Music, co-produced with Andrew Lloyd Webber, which, “subject to a theatre being available”, they hope to bring into the West End next year (See The Goss, 20 Mar 2003). Back in September 2002, Lloyd Webber publicly announced his plans to mount a new production of the Rodgers and Hammerstein Broadway musical classic, tipping it to open at the West End's Victoria Palace in May 2003 (See News, 25 Sep 2002). But at the start of 2003, those plans seemed to be quietly postponed and then shelved. Apparently, after doing the maths on the 1500-seat theatre, Clear Channel reckoned the production simply couldn't make enough at the box office. Related Content |
