Fur Flies for Cats’ West End Comeback???Date: 3 November 2004Not content with holding the world record for longest-running musical, Cats could be purring its way back into the West End to start another of its nine lives soon. The current touring production is at the New Wimbledon Theatre, on London’s outskirts, from 19 November to 4 December 2004 but could move back into the West End for a limited season after that. It all depends on venue availability though, if Jerry Springer doesn’t survive past its court date (See News, 29 Oct 2004), the Cambridge Theatre could be a possibility. In 1996, Cats became the holder of the record for longest-running musical on the both sides of the Atlantic. Before closing in September 2000, the Broadway production had clocked up 18 years. The West End production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical meowed out of the New London Theatre on its 21st birthday, 11 May 2002 (See News, 8 May 2002). Related Content |
