He Said, They Said with Jerry’s Allan & Avalon???Date: 27 October 2004The tit-for-tat “squabble” between Jerry Springer’s original commercial co-producers Allan McKeown and Avalon Promotions just keeps on rolling. In response to Avalon’s Monday blitz blaming the show’s possible closure on the costs associated with a libel action against the Daily Mail, the Los Angeles-based McKeown – who has not been actively managing or financing the show since July – yesterday issued a statement saying that he in no way endorses the action taken by Avalon against the tabloid and that, in any case, the costs of that action should have been Avalon’s alone and should not affect any Jerry Springer marketing. In response to that, Avalon’s Jon Thoday insisted that McKeown had agreed back in January, when the offending Daily Mail piece was published, that the lawsuit was indeed a “production issue”. And in response to that, McKeown has now distributed a copy of the certified High Court form issued on 2 February 2004 listing Avalon Promotions Ltd as the sole claimant against Daily Mail owners Associated Newspapers regarding damages for libel. Avalon was unavailable for further response this morning though yesterday an insider told Whatsonstage.com that the company had no intention of engaging in a public slanging match with McKeown.
