O’Neill’s Misbegotten Slated for Early 2005???Date: 12 October 2004 The previously tipped revival of Eugene O'Neill’s 1947 play Moon for the Misbegotten now looks set for the West End in early 2005 (See The Goss, 10 Oct 2004). Set in 1923 in a run-down farmhouse in Connecticut, Moon revolves around quick-witted Josie, her scheming father Phil and their landlord, James Tyrone Jr (who also featured in O’Neill’s Long Day's Journey into Night, which was last in the West End in 1998), now an alcoholic older man still haunted by his mother's death. Moon for the Misbegotten was revived to great acclaim in 2002 on Broadway where Gabriel Byrne played Tyrone. Casting for the new production is taking place now. Speaking to Whatsontage.com (See “The Producers: Nica Burns”, Features, 10 Oct 2004), producer Nica Burns said that she hopes the revival will be directed by Howard Davies, who directed the multi award-winning London revivals of O’Neill’s Mourning Becomes Electra (at the National last year) and The Iceman Cometh (at the Almeida, Old Vic and Broadway in 1998).
