Latest Murderous Director Falls Foul???Date: 24 September 2004 The farce surrounding Murderous Instincts, one of the most troubled productions in recent West End history, continues. Whatsonstage.com has learned that the latest in a string of directors for the salsa-inspired musical is now off the show as well. Michael Rooney, American choreographer and son of Hollywood legend Mickey Rooney, was brought in at short notice to replace Bob Carlton, who was sacked by producer Manny Fox. But last week, Rooney had to flee to Paris as he did not have the proper visa to work in the UK (See News, 17 Sep 2004). This week, after some frenzied work by lawyers on his behalf, Rooney’s visa request was turned down by the Home Office. Despite numerous attempts to find out who is now in charge of the production, the credits have not been forthcoming. A show spokesperson has said that two “artistic advisors” are shaping the production during final rehearsals and previews ahead of an opening still set for 7 October, but declined to name them. After more than a fortnight of cancelled dates, performances are due to begin next Monday, 27 September. Watch this space…
