Salesman Suits up Again for London???

Speaking of Arthur Miller, not to mention Chicago’s Goodman Theater, Whatsonstage.com hears that there are still hopes of bringing the Tony Award-winning revival of Miller’s 1949 Pulitzer Prize winner Death of a Salesman to the West End – sooner rather than later (See News, 7 Sep 1999). The production, which starred Brian Dennehy and Elizabeth Franz (the latter about to make her London stage debut in Buried Child at the National), was first seen in Chicago in 1998 before transferring in January 1999 to Broadway's Eugene O'Neill Theatre for a sell-out run. It went on to win four Tony Awards - for Best Revival, Best Direction for Falls, Best Actor for Dennehy and Best Actress for Franz – and was expected to open in London, also at the Old Vic, in January 2000. Whether, at this stage, the original cast could be reassembled is uncertain, but if so, it could hit the West End by early next year. Which could prove problematic for English Touring Theatre, which is planning to mount its own revival of the tale of misguided travelling salesman Willie Loman next year (See The Goss, 17 Jun 2004).
