National Thinks Big from Small???Date: 8 September 2004Another titbit from yesterday’s National Theatre press conference (See News, 7 Sep 2004) – NT artistic director Nicholas Hytner plans to reclaim more modern studio plays for larger spaces. Although he declined to name any future revivals, he cited David Mamet’s Edmond - which Edward Hall directed with Kenneth Branagh for last year’s Travelex £10 Season in the NT Olivier, the National’s 1,100-seat auditorium – as an example. There are plenty of others that are ripe for enlargement, too, he said. After all, “the entire Nineties’ writing explosion happened in the studio space.” Related Content |
