Date: 31 August 2004
Martin Shaw could soon be returning to the stage in a major new revival of
Robert Bolt’s
A Man for All Seasons. The 1960 play - which tells the story of Thomas More, who confronted King Henry VIII in his rejection of the Roman Catholic Church in order to divorce and remarry – was famously made into a 1966 film, starring
Paul Scofield as More. Shaw is best known for his small screen credits in the likes of
Judge John Deed, The Scarlet Pimpernel, Rhodes, The Hound of the Baskervilles and
The Professionals. Shaw was last seen in the West End in 1997, starring in Peter Hall’s revival of Oscar Wilde’s
An Ideal Husband at the Theatre Royal Haymarket.
