Bring Down the Bulbul Please??? Date: 25 August 2004
And while we’re naming festival highlights, Whatsonstage.com would like to put forward two more special mentions. First, When the Bulbul Stopped Singing, David Greig’s premiere adaptation of Raja Shehadeh’s memoir, directed by Philip Howard at the Traverse Theatre. How this extraordinarily insightful and never less than mesmerising one-man show about life in occupied Palestine has so far failed to win a Fringe First is a mystery. Thankfully, and quite rightly, Christopher Simon has been nominated for The Stage’s Best Actor award for his performance. Awards or no awards, this is a show that deserves a wider audience, and a London one. The Royal Court perhaps? Ian Rickson please take note!
