Lord of the Rings Postpones Premiere???Date: 18 August 2004Plans for the stage musical version of The Lord of the Rings remain under way (See News, 21 Oct 2003), though not without a slippage or two. According to Variety, instead of spring 2005 as previously announced, the £8 million production is now aiming to premiere next October, still in time to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the publication of the complete J R R Tolkien trilogy, The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers and The Return of the King. Rumour has it that the producers of the Hobbity epic have their hearts set on the 2,000-seat Dominion Theatre, but publicly those behind Whatsonstage.com Award-winning We Will Rock You remain bullish about not moving. The Queen musical is currently booking up to April 2005. The Lord of the Rings has a book and lyrics by Shaun McKenna, with music by Bombay Dreams' AR Rahman and Finnish folk group Värttinä. The premiere production will be directed by Matthew Warchus and designed by Rob Howell, with musical supervision by Christopher Nightingale and choreography by Peter Darling. Related Content |
